Our Fundraising Work

By Susanna Barthelemy

Fundraising is a notable way to raise money for a charity while also raising awareness of issues that are affecting the world. There are millions of people who are struggling due to the lack of resources within their neighborhood and the opportunities divided. While delving into the topic of inequality in America, we have discussed different issues we are each individually passionate about. SOCI.306 Nonprofit Giving has put into perspective the power of giving. It has shown us the difference we can make by dedicating a few hours out of our day to a valuable cause. We’ve acknowledged that everyone doesn't have the same opportunities in life, but with the help of nonprofit organizations, those in need can transform their lives.

The Learning by Giving Foundation has given SOCI:306 Nonprofit Giving class 10,000 dollars to donate to a nonprofit organization of our choice. We appreciate the Learning by Giving Foundation for giving us the grant, but they made our job too easy. It’s a simple task to pick an organization to donate money to rather than putting in the time and effort to raise the money ourselves. We feel for us to understand the meaning behind giving we should put the work in ourselves. For us to truly understand the spirit of giving, we’ve decided to form our own fundraising events to earn money for another well deserving organization.

Future chefs is an organization that helps transition young adults into adulthood by equipping them with the skills to succeed academically and professionally after high school. Future Chefs believes that “every young person is capable of reaching his or her fullest potential if given the opportunity to excel.” By giving these kids the tools to find employment, they are giving them the confidence to aim high in all aspects of life, and that is an organization worth funding. Nonprofits like Future Chefs strives to break barriers by making a meaningful impact in the lives of others by molding young professionals to become positive role models in society.
