Passion and Energy

By: Jessica Gutierrez

Have you ever looked a stranger and wondered about their life? Everyone has a story, no matter how big or small, everyone goes through struggles. Being a part of Nonprofit Giving has given me a perspective about life like no other. In my other courses, people are not really as engaged and personally connected to the class as people in Nonprofit are. I tend to tear up when people share personal stories. There were moments during our pitches where people moved me and impacted me. It goes to show that you are not alone and there are people in this world that want to help you in the most selfless way. People do care. There are still good people in this world and this class has shown and proved that each and every class.

Passion is something that drives all of us to our goals. Everyone in the classroom has something that drives them to succeed. Their future career, family, getting a better life, etc. We all have goals and dreams that we crave to pursue. That passion we have for being able to change and help those who are in need of help is extremely important and that carries on from outside of the class. Being able to step outside of the classroom and learn real life skills to help others is crucial. We can talk about helping people, but there is a difference from talking about help and actually taking action. This course has shown me that in order to make a difference, you have to put yourself out there. You have to make connections, ask questions, and most importantly, be open to ideas.

I have learned a lot about myself through this course. The course, Dr. Silver, and my classmates have taught me to be proud of who I am and my passion for helping others. Everyone has something to give. I do not ever want to lose my compassion for others. I have always been appreciative of what I have, so if I have food, money, anything I can give to someone else; it is a privilege that I do not want to take for granted. I have the opportunity to change someone else’s life. If just one person says that I have positively impacted their life, that alone, shows me I’m doing something right in this world. We have to learn that everyone has something they’re going through and one small action can make a big impact.
